Getting started with your business books
Create your business workspace, choose what you see, add customers and categories, and send your first invoice in a few minutes.
Create your account
- Go to the sign-up page and, under "What are you keeping the books for?", choose Business.
- Choose your plan, then pick how you want to start: Basic, Advanced or Expert. Basic shows just the essentials; Expert turns everything on.
- Fill in your company name, tax classification, your name, email, password, currency and time zone, then click "Create Account".
- Enter the 6-digit code we email you and click "Verify".
- On "You're all set", click "Maybe later" to go straight on, or "Set up two-factor authentication" (recommended) to protect your sign-in first.
- Answer a few questions about your business so Sumqo shows only what you use, then click "Finish setup" — or "Skip for now". You can run these questions again any time from Settings → Modules → "Run setup assistant".
Tip: Not sure how much to turn on? Start with Basic or Advanced. You can turn any area on or off later in Settings → Modules.
Show only what you use
Each area of Sumqo (invoicing, banking, payroll, taxes and more) is a module. Turning a module off hides it from the sidebar and the dashboard; your data is kept and comes back when you turn it on again.
- Open Settings → Modules.
- Turn modules on or off. Some modules sit under a parent (for example Estimates under Invoicing) and only show when the parent is on.
- Not sure what you need? Click "Run setup assistant", answer a few questions about your business, review "Here's your tailored setup" and click "Finish setup".
Add your workspace details
- Settings → Workspace: company profile, contact details, logo and brand colors. These appear on your invoices and emails.
- Settings → Taxes: save your sales tax rates so you can pick them on invoices.
- Settings → Invoices: invoice numbering and defaults.
- Categories (in the sidebar): the income and expense categories your money is sorted into.
Your first week in Sumqo
- Add your customers under Customers → "New Customer", and the companies you buy from under Vendors → "New Vendor".
- Create and send your first invoice from Invoices → "New Invoice".
- Add your bank and card accounts under Banking → "New Account" and upload their statements.
- Review the new bank lines in Banking → "Review transactions" so every one is in your books.
- Check the Dashboard for money in and out, open invoices, open bills and anything that needs attention.
- Follow the setup list at the top of the Dashboard (also under the ? menu → "Getting started"). Each step ticks itself off once it is done.
Note: Moving from QuickBooks? Bring your customers, vendors and history over first, so you do not type them twice.
